Press Release from UW-Parkside

UW-Parkside’s Black Student Union (BSU) and Delta Sigma Theta sorority are proud to co-sponsor “Parkside Unites: No Place for Hate” march and rally Friday, April 20, in conjunction with our Dignity & Respect Campaign. This event is an opportunity for students and members of the community to come together and show their respect and support for all people and to help foster a sense of love and acceptance, not only on the campus but throughout the community as well. The community and media are invited and welcome to attend this event. Parking will be available in the Rita Parking lot for members of the community who would like to attend.

The event will begin with a sign making opportunity at 9 a.m. in Mid Main Place. Supplies will be provided. The march will begin at 10 a.m. and will start at Mid Main Place, proceed out the back doors and follow the sidewalk to the Rita parking lot. It will continue past Ranger Hall to the Student Center terrace. The march will conclude with a rally at the Student Center Terrace around 10:30 a.m. The Rally will be emceed by UW-Parkside students Krystal Slay, Zach Atkins, and Yoger Aguilar and will also include a speech from Chancellor Debbie Ford. After these speeches, there will be an open forum during which anyone may speak. In case of inclement weather, the march will take place indoors.

The Dignity & Respect Campaign is a UW-Parkside initiative that is intended to foster respectful and peaceful interactions between all people. Many university campuses across the country have experienced an increase in bias, intolerance and hate incidents. For this reason, the Dignity and Respect committee’s purpose is to engage the campus to not only show support of the expansive diversity that exists at UW-Parkside, but also show that when we unite to share a common message, we stand strong together in the face of intolerance.

Coming together in the “Parkside Unites: No Place for Hate” march, students and community members shows that UW-Parkside will continue to be a university that stands behind our hallmark of inclusion and respect. We are and continue to be a campus where all voices, all identities, and all values are welcome and treated with dignity and respect.

We encourage all members of our community; faculty, staff, and students, to join us in the “Parkside Unites: No Place for Hate” march. For more information contact Kim White atwhitek01@uwp.edu.
