Ram Bhatia

Name three long-term goals you have for the Village and why you chose them.

a.) Provide much needed civilized leadership and help lead the village to be poised for significant economic growth.

b.) Lead the board to put in a structure and well-thought-of business policies to increase productivity at the Village Hall so that we best use our tax dollars. Hold the line on taxes, be a “trustee” of the taxpayers.

c.) Create a vision for long-term economic growth, while maintaining a balance of rural community and balanced budgets

What are the three biggest challenges the village faces, and how would you address them?

a.) Infighting at the current board of individuals seeking to promote their own personal agendas. With Foxconn coming to Mount Pleasant, we have so much potential for growth. We need the leadership at the highest level, working as a team to provide a vision for growth and economic development of Mount Pleasant. I have no personal agenda or political ambitions. My passion is my community and the quality of life for all our citizens. I have been providing leadership as a trustee on Gateway Technical College Board. I will bring the same leadership, the same passion and my business acumen to the village board.

b.) Lack of long-term vision for growth. Foxconn provides a great opportunity for economic growth. But we can’t stop there. The Village Board must have a vision for the long term: for infrastructure, residential and commercial development while maintaining a balance with the rural community. To achieve specific goals of that vision, we must break down the goals into three (3) year strategic plans. I have the experience, and leadership skills to lead that team.

c.) Inefficiencies of operations. Trustees have a fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers. To hold the line on taxes, while investing in your community requires the village to have balanced budgets. This can be done by analyzing and prioritizing spending, by reviewing and implementing processes to improve productivity, operational efficiencies of all departments.

The Village is poised for growth. How should it adapt to that growth?

It requires leadership at the highest level to work together as a team: To have a long-term vision, promote development by generating ideas and solutions, to analyze and prioritize spending, to increase operational efficiency.

How would you describe your leadership style?

I have an entrepreneur mindset. I listen to all ideas and solutions with an open mind, without any personal agenda, and deal with every issue on its own merit. I weigh in long-term impact on the taxpayers and citizens of the community. I am a positive and very productive contributor to any team, but most of all I provide leadership to generate those ideas and solutions. If there is a better way to do anything, I adopt it with pride.

Why should people elect you?

I am the only candidate with over 12 years of experience as a trustee on Gateway Technical College Board and have served as a senior manager in a large international manufacturing industry. I challenge the status quo. I have an entrepreneur mindset and always strive for better and efficient ways to achieve goals. If elected, I will bring my business acumen and leadership skills to the Mount Pleasant Village Hall. I will be part of the team that generates ideas and solutions. As your trustee, I will stand as an independent voice of reason, good fiscal management, and vision for the long-term growth of Mount Pleasant.
