A 34-year-old Racine man faces 11 criminal charges following a hit-and-run crash in April.
Marquon D. Anderson was charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office Monday with three felony counts of hit-and-run causing injury, six felony counts of bail jumping and misdemeanor counts of hit and run and operating a motor vehicle while revoked.
The felony hit-and-run charges each carry a fine of $10,000 and nine months in prison, while each of the bail-jumping charges carries a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison. The two misdemeanors carry a total fine of $3,500 and 18 months in county jail.
Anderson will be back in court July 18 for an 8:30 a.m. preliminary hearing.
According to the criminal complaint:
Police on April 18 were dispatched to 16th Street and West Boulevard, and upon arrival, found three vehicles, a Mercury, a Mitsubishi and a Chevrolet Malibu, that were involved in a crash.
Witnesses stated the Mercury was eastbound on 16th Street when it ran a red light and was struck by the northbound Mitsubishi. The Mercury did a 360-degree spin and struck the Malibu that was stopped at a red light.
The driver and passenger in the Mitsubishi were injured and were transported to a local hospital.
Anderson, later identified as the driver of the Mercury, and a passenger in his vehicle both fled the scene. Police spoke to the passenger a block away, and she admitted she was a passenger. She also was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The passenger stated that Anderson had consumed three beers in about 20 minutes at a house. As they were driving and approached the red light, the woman told the officer that Anderson ran right through it and was struck by a red SUV.
Anderson did not have a driver’s license and the vehicle was uninsured. A records check showed his license had been revoked and also that he was free on bond for a pending felony case in Racine County. An arrest warrant was issued for the defendant in May after he failed to appear for a court appearance, and he was returned on that warrant Monday.
