Angry that another man spanked his child, a Racine man now faces six criminal charges for his role in an assault that happened in May.
Jonathan Rivera-Gonzalez, 32, was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with felony counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a short-barreled shotgun/rifle, all as a repeat offender, along with misdemeanor counts of pointing a firearm at another, bail jumping, battery and disorderly conduct.
The felonies carry a total fine of $60,000 and 26 years in prison. The misdemeanors carry a fine of $31,000 and 30 months in county jail. Court records indicate a warrant for $25,000 for the defendant.
According to the criminal complaint:
An investigator met the Racine Police Department met with a man regarding an assault. The victim stated that two males, including the defendant, came to his residence because they did not like that he had spanked his child to discipline him.
The victim stated when he exited his vehicle, he was beaten up by both males. The victim said he was punched and kicked numerous times in the stomach and had sustained a laceration under his left eye. The victim also stated that Rivera-Gonzalez pointed a sawed-off shotgun at him in front of his children before they fled in a white caravan with Illinois license plates.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 15 in Racine County Felony Court.
