Police: Couple Attempted to Steal More Than $3,000 in Goods from Kohl’s

A Mount Pleasant couple is facing jail time after police say they tried to steal more than $3,000 from Kohl's.

Mount Pleasant police say a man and woman over the weekend attempted to steal more than $3,000 in merchandise from Kohl’s.

Ruben Medina and Nadia Strong, both of Mount Pleasant, were each charged Tuesday with one felony count retail theft. If convicted, they face up to 3-1/2 years in prison each and/or up to $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, employees at Kohl’s Sunday called police to report that Medina and Strong were in the security office after they were caught trying to take thousands of dollars in merchandise from the store by leaving through an emergency exit. Workers told officers they saw the couple travel around the store and place various items in their carts before they made their way to the restrooms.

Police say both Medina and Strong entered the restrooms with their carts and emerged with merchandise stuffed into duffel bags. The couple then walked to an emergency exit and paced back and forth before exiting where additional security personnel were waiting.

All told, Medina and Strong tried to steal $3,684.42 worth of goods, the complaint reads.

Medina was assigned a $100 cash bond and Strong a $200 signature bond at their initial appearances Tuesday. Medina will next be in court Jan. 3 and Strong Jan. 25 for their preliminary hearings.
