Obituary: Marilyn Nikolai Volunteered For Years

Marilyn H Nikolai

Marilyn H. Nikolai, 86, passed away at her home on Wednesday. Born in Racine on May 1, 1931, Marilyn is the daughter of the late Harvey and Magdalene (nee: Fischer) Schemel and had been a lifelong resident.

She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1949. Marilyn married to Herbert C. Nikolai on August 13, 1955 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where they were longtime dedicated members. They were married for 53 years before Herb passed away on August 29, 2008. She volunteered with St. Mary’s Auxiliary for 30 years. In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed reading, playing cards, playing dart ball at St. John’s, and bowling at Douglas Bowl and Paradise North. Above all, Marilyn will be best remembered for her great love and dedication to her family.

She will be dearly missed by her sons, Herbert and Kenneth (Michele); grandsons, Christopher, Jeffrey (Mandy) and their mother, Joan, and Michael (Katie); great grandchildren, Jacob and Liam; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eugene Nikolai, Norman (Joan) Nikolai, Jane Shipley; dear cousins, Eileen Hayek, Joyce (Joseph) Goulais, Ed Hayek, Jean Schemel, Elaine Pinta; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

With Rev. Steve Varghese officiating, a mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to the Disabled American Veterans have been suggested.
