Gloria A. Nielsen, 86, died unday. Gloria was born in Coatesville, PA, on October 9, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Adolf and Katherine (Nee: Dushienka) Wojnarowski.
Gloria fell in love with her future husband the minute she saw him at the Officer’s Club in Coronado California. Three months later, on February 14, 1960, she was united in marriage to Lieutenant Commander Theodore “Ted” C. Nielsen in Las Vegas.
Gloria was a registered nurse for many years before marriage. Because her husband was in the Navy, they traveled across the United States where ever he was needed. Their journey started in San Diego, CA. Then the Navy moved them every few years from Jacksonville, FL, to Puerto Rico and then finally to the Great Lakes Naval Station so they could live in her husband’s hometown of Racine.
Over the last 8 years they have been returning to San Diego during the winter months to enjoy the weather and the company of her sister Lillian and her family.
Gloria belonged to the Racine Curling Club and the Holiday Rambler RV Club in the past. She also enjoyed Danish Folk dancing with her husband. Their group would perform in authentic costumes at different events around the area. A devoted and loving mother of six, Gloria cherished time spent with her family. She will be remembered by many as an extremely caring person.
She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Ted; her children, Kathy (Rob) Madson, Chris (Terese) Nielsen, Dave Nielsen, Ann (Bradley) Sollinger, Karen Jackson, Tom (Anne) Nielsen; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; a niece, a nephew, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Rhodes and Lillian Golden.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Nurses Foundation of Racine: Mary Alice Petersen Memorial, in her honor, has been suggested. She will be laid to rest at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
