Ahhh fatherly advice…
You probably hated hearing it while growing up, but remember it fondly as the ‘dad voice’ in your head helped guide your decision making.
Dear old dad has been offering up bits of wisdom for years. He’s been prodding you to become savvy with money and other life lessons. So we asked our readers, what was the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from your dad and here are a few of your responses:
Ann Marie: “Him to me as a bratty teenager: ‘There’s going to be a lot of things you don’t want to do in life. It’s not just about the fun stuff.’ I think of this often when I see young adults that can’t run a lawnmower etc.”
Leigh Ann Elcano: “I never told you what you could or could not do with your hair…” (I shaved my head when I was 15). …don’t tell me what I should do with mine.” (He has a rat tail that I had been pleading with him to cut off for about 15 years.) Actually, since then, I never suggest what anyone should do with any part of their appearance.
Michele LaBucki: “’There’s going to be things in life you won’t want to do but you’ll have to do it anyway. Start now.’ Said to me because I wanted to get out of taking Spanish in the middle of the year. He was right. I now have to speak Spanish to people I work with.”
Casey Rouse: “Sentient servitude without hesitation. Not taught, but shown. I still don’t know how he can be so selfless, and I’d love to be that someday.”
