A 50-year-old Racine man faces three felony charges, including aggravated battery of an elderly person, after a fight June 16 in the Racine County Jail.

The battery charge filed Wednesday against Jeffery S. Greene carries a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison. Greene also is charged with two felony counts of battery by a prisoner, which each carry a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison, along with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, which carries a fine of $1,000 and 90 days in the county jail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Officers in the jail were alerted to a fight in one of the day rooms, where they observed Greene, another inmate and the victim, also an inmate, who was lying on the floor in the back of the room with blood all over his face.

The victim was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital for his injuries. He later told police he had been sleeping when he was woken up by several punches to his head.

Police spoke with a witness, who stated he observed the defendant hitting the victim three to four times. Greene stopped hitting the victim and then chased the witness, who eventually caught him and began striking him.

The witness stated he fell to the ground from being hit and believed he had also been kicked in the head by the defendant.

Greene will be back in Racine County Circuit Court for a preliminary hearing June 27 at 8:30 a.m.
