Racine Man Arrested For Attempted Burglary

A Racine man was arrested for attempted burglary after he smashed a window Friday morning at SF Petroleum & Food Mart, 2325 Racine St.

Shane Williams, 37, of Racine, was arrested for attempted burglary, possession of burglarious tools and criminal damage to property, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Charges have been submitted to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office, but Williams has not officially been charged.

An employee was inside the locked gas station when he heard the sound of glass breaking at 12:18 a.m.  The front window had broken and Williams stood outside near the broken window. Seeing the employee, Williams fled the area and the employee confronted him.

Williams was able to get away, but an officer with the Mount Pleasant Police Department saw him at 6:34 a.m. Friday morning in the 2200 block of Howe Street.

Officers interviewed Williams and were able to link evidence from the crime to him. He was taken into custody and is being held on a $10,200 bail, according to Racine County inmate records.
