Anna Marie Clausen

Name three long-term goals you have for the village and why you chose them.

1. Hold the line on property taxes.

Residents retain more disposable income and stimulate the local economy.

2. Focus on economic growth and help small businesses flourish.

Small businesses are the lifeblood of the community.  If they do well, the community grows.

3. Encourage teamwork and collaboration with all to achieve the best result for the Village.

Together we can build a positive environment to break the stalemate and move the Village forward.

What are the three biggest challenges the village faces, and how would you address them?

  1. Mount Pleasant has a very negative reputation as a dysfunctional board.  We need Board members who are willing to work together for the common good and emphasize accomplishments.
  2. Foxconn is an enormous project.  We have an opportunity for tremendous growth and improved quality of life.  While there will be challenges, there are also great benefits to be realized. Every member must pay close attention and assure proper oversight. This Board will lay the foundation for the future of Mount Pleasant.
  3. The Village finances need attention and oversight. Operating without a Finance Director for many months meant that critical procedures were overlooked. A new Director was recently hired and initial steps taken, include upgrading the current software and implementing procedures recommended by the auditor.

The Village is poised for growth. How should it adapt to that growth?

A ‘master plan’ has been previously created, but Foxconn has changed that. We need to sit down as a board and update our long-term vision and plan for the community. Although Foxconn is an important part of that plan, we must ensure that all of the residents are protected and benefit from future economic growth.

How would you describe your leadership style?

Compassionate and collaborative. Margaret Thatcher once said that if you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman. It is my goal to lead the board in discussion and work as a member of the team to ensure that the citizens of Mount Pleasant are always the top priority for the Board.

Why should people elect you?

I read, investigate and do a thorough analysis of any question or project presented.  Board members are elected to represent ALL residents of Mount Pleasant. I will make informed decisions that are in the best interest of all residents and the long-term future of the Mount Pleasant community.  I will encourage teamwork and collaboration. And I will do my best to report out and explain the reasoning behind the decisions made by the Board.
